Ahhh, summer. I feel like I spend the first few months of our short warm weather season just soaking up the green, the sunshine and that gorgeous evening light. (Don't get me started on the evening light!!). But once we pass the road marker of July 4th it starts to hit me... summer is barreling down the track toward autumn and I want to slow it all down! I want to catch all that beautiful light in a jar with the warm nights and the scent of flowers in the air. Anyone with me? Wanna freeze some time?? Me too. Let's do it together with photography! I'll run the camera and you provide the smiles... we'll see if summer is game to pitch in some stunning light and DONE! Summertime memories captured! Who's with me??

You know that moment in a conversation when there's just a wee bit too long of a pause? Yeah, your brain is either in overdrive trying to think of what to say next, or it's stalled out completely... a perfectly blank space of static. That's been me in this conversation with you! My last blog post was in 2016 just after arriving in New Zealand for the first time and now here I am approximately 3 years and over 15,000 miles of travel later... kinda back where I started, except not. So what can be said? Obviously a lot of life happened in the last little while! But can it be summed up in a blog post? Not so much. So instead of staring at this empty space and wracking my brain for how to re-start the conversation, I'm just gonna dive in!
We're back! Back in Fort Collins (which is where I was born, just for those of you that might not know this fun little fact). New Zealand is AMAZING and should most likely make your list of places to visit on planet earth. Our time there was fraught with challenges, filled with beauty, packed with personal growth and has marked our whole family with a love for that country forever. It wasn't all glamourous. We weren't living a lifestyle shoot during golden hour, but it was rich... and don't we often find that it takes a little grit to bring out the shine in a thing?
So what now? Well, now that we're back in Nothern Colorado Daniel is a freelancing videographer and I'm putting energy back into photography and my passion for creating art, telling stories through photos and connecting with people. So if you wanna grab some coffee and catch up, let me know! Meanwhile... it seems appropriate to share a few snapshots of NZ, right? Cheers! Looking forward to re-connecting with you all!

You know how sometimes things get away from you? Laundry...the oil change for the car... vacuuming...yard work...posting to your photography blog? Yep. It's definitely gotten away from me!
So, somewhere around the middle of August about a month after we decided to take a leap and take a year to explore the southern hemisphere (Wait. What?? Did I miss something? Yes, yes you did and I'm sorry but I will explain. Wait, there is too much... let me sum up. We are traveling throughout New Zealand and Australia until May of 2017. There. You good?) Anyhoooo... we thought to ourselves that perhaps we should offer mini-sessions again to help with the whole money thing that constantly tries to hinder giant leaps and the jumping off of things. And we did. And thanks to all you lovely people who decided to take advantage of this (I tend to want to say AMAZING right here...) deal we booked 21 sessions that we shot in 3 weeks time. Yes... yes I did say 3 weeks. What's that? How did we manage finishing renovations on an older home, packing up life and shooting 21 sessions in 3 weeks time? I could tell you but.....
So. The long and short of it is that now that we have actually arrived in NZ (yes, this lengthy diatribe is coming from New Zealand) I actually have some time to post some of these SUPER lovely family photos! Yay! Buckle up, cause there's gonna be a lot of photos comin' at ya!
Well...
If your kids have changed so much that when you see your last family photo you sigh and say, "Oh my goodness! Remember when _______ was so small?"
If your new found friend comes over to your house for the first time and asks you who that cute family with the little kids in the photo is...
If people aren't accepting your fb friend request because they don't recognize you....
If you absolutely hate the way you looked in your last family photo...
If you just want to capture the moment and you realize there is no time like the present!
So what are you waiting for??
I promise that I won't chat your ear off about my latest vacation {besides who has had one lately?}... or my dog {actually, I might if I had a dog}... or even my children {this one is tough, cause they're awesome}. But if you get me started on the wonder of gorgeous evening light just as I'm finishing a family portrait session?... yeah, I might have a lot to say. I LOVE light!! Early morning light rocks, but if I ask you to get up at 6:30 am to shoot your family portrait session you might not give me that lovely smile that makes a portrait say "this is fun"! So more often than not evening light it is! Of course, sadly light doesn't always get the memo about the shoot time and sometimes (sniff) it doesn't make an appearance. When that happens it's ok... REALLY! Another really lovely light is diffused cloudy day light... it gives this awesome even toned lighting, also great for stunning portraits! But when I hit this kind of evening light... ahhh, I do get a tad excited and I might shoot like mad while the sun sets and smile a lot while I'm editing later....
