Senior Portrait Season!!!
Photographing seniors is one of my favorite kinds of photo sessions! Probably in part because I can focus all of my attention on just one person and that gives me room for more creative photography. As you can imagine when I'm trying to capture a group I have to divide my focus between multiple people and work fast! With senior photos I get to slow down, utilize a bunch of different backgrounds, different kinds of light and play a little!
That said, spending time with this gem was extra special cause our families go way back, and she is just a lovely soul!
The best season for sessions is directly in front of us!
Is it terrible that I'm partial towards fall? I mean, I do love the fresh greens of spring and all those sweet flowers heralding warmer days. And the charm of warm summer nights and light until late in the evening can't be denied. But fall kinda has it all. It's still warm enough, the colors can't be beat and the light... wow. Honestly, September light has come up to the top of my happy list. I LOVE the quality of that low September light. Yum.
Family is the best
Can I tell you what one of my favorite things about being a photographer is? Connection. I have this incredible privilege to bear witness to and capture through my lens, connection. When I'm shooting I'm looking for it, trying to help foster it and prompting it! Connection is what makes photos work.
One thing I know for sure is that pulling together your entire family for a photo session can be time consuming, stressful, costly and intimidating. So once you've done all that work, my job is to help you and your crew enjoy the next hour of photos. I'm gonna do my very best to make it a relaxed and stress free experience!

So...Daniel and I pretty much do not photograph weddings anymore. For about 8 years that was our full time job. Our photography company was named VERGE, as in "on the verge of...". And for 8 years we were on the verge for sure! There were times that felt like we were at the top of our game and times we were tipping over the brink. Honestly? Being a wedding photographer was probably the best job I ever had. And the most stressful. And super fun. And crazy. And amazing. You get the idea.
Anyhoo... last weekend we acquiesced to photographing Jonathan & Ellie's wedding in Elkhart, KS and dusted off the old wedding photography skills. Still love catching little moments and big ones.
