Tis the season of the 2024 seniors! It's really quite an epic year in the cycle of High School life, the end of one era (that maybe you thought would never end) and the beginning of another. I'm not sure when the idea of taking photographs of the senior high schooler started, but I'm a fan!! First, it's just plain fun. Second, it's often a time when I as a photographer I can play with new locations, ideas, poses etc. Third, I get to meet so many amazing souls, it's a win, win, win. So I love photographing senior sessions! I'm gonna be posting a bunch, but I have to kick it off with this beauty, cause not only was she just a dream to photograph, but the images from her session are just so classic.

Apparently summer is over. I just got the memo. Now, don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE fall. My issue with fall is that it's often only a few weeks long when I want it to last forever. But before we "officially" transition to fall I want to share some summertime pics with you, starting with a few of this beauty.

We caught a window of mountain wildflowers up the Poudre that were SPECTACULAR!!! Made my heart so happy...

Is there anything sweeter than a newborn baby? We’re just hitting the edge of Spring here in Colorado and after what felt like a VERY long winter new life is visible again! So, in honor of the beginnings of Spring I bring you this adorable little soul.

I should mention (for the record) that I am not a full time newborn photographer. Let me tell you that it is a niche of photography that takes a specific skill set, environment and set up. Still, I LOVE photographing newborns. Why? Well, it’s the pursuit of a really artistic shot that gets me excited about the challenge. Newborns can be so sleepy that you can’t get them to wake up or so awake that all hopes of that perfect sleeping baby shot evaporates. (This session was more on the awake side, but we did have a few brief sleepy moments too). Sometimes they’re super pliable and content to be swaddled and moved around. But if it’s not their day for sleepy contentment, you know about it!!

I think the challenge is fun, it keeps me on my toes! Plus when you do get some winning shots you can’t help but smile, cause I mean, c’mon…is there anything sweeter than a newborn baby?
Ahhh, summer. I feel like I spend the first few months of our short warm weather season just soaking up the green, the sunshine and that gorgeous evening light. (Don't get me started on the evening light!!). But once we pass the road marker of July 4th it starts to hit me... summer is barreling down the track toward autumn and I want to slow it all down! I want to catch all that beautiful light in a jar with the warm nights and the scent of flowers in the air. Anyone with me? Wanna freeze some time?? Me too. Let's do it together with photography! I'll run the camera and you provide the smiles... we'll see if summer is game to pitch in some stunning light and DONE! Summertime memories captured! Who's with me??

You know that moment in a conversation when there's just a wee bit too long of a pause? Yeah, your brain is either in overdrive trying to think of what to say next, or it's stalled out completely... a perfectly blank space of static. That's been me in this conversation with you! My last blog post was in 2016 just after arriving in New Zealand for the first time and now here I am approximately 3 years and over 15,000 miles of travel later... kinda back where I started, except not. So what can be said? Obviously a lot of life happened in the last little while! But can it be summed up in a blog post? Not so much. So instead of staring at this empty space and wracking my brain for how to re-start the conversation, I'm just gonna dive in!
We're back! Back in Fort Collins (which is where I was born, just for those of you that might not know this fun little fact). New Zealand is AMAZING and should most likely make your list of places to visit on planet earth. Our time there was fraught with challenges, filled with beauty, packed with personal growth and has marked our whole family with a love for that country forever. It wasn't all glamourous. We weren't living a lifestyle shoot during golden hour, but it was rich... and don't we often find that it takes a little grit to bring out the shine in a thing?
So what now? Well, now that we're back in Nothern Colorado Daniel is a freelancing videographer and I'm putting energy back into photography and my passion for creating art, telling stories through photos and connecting with people. So if you wanna grab some coffee and catch up, let me know! Meanwhile... it seems appropriate to share a few snapshots of NZ, right? Cheers! Looking forward to re-connecting with you all!
